Enhanced Medicaid Mobile Crisis Map

With 988 available nationwide, we must work to improve our behavioral health crisis system. A key element in improving the crisis continuum of care is through community-based mobile crisis response services. These services provide a rapid response, individual assessment and crisis resolution by trained mental health professionals and paraprofessionals for individuals who have or are presumed to have a mental health condition and/or substance use disorder (SUD).

Medicaid is the largest payer of behavioral health services in the country and is an important funder of crisis services. To help strengthen state systems, the federal government is offering states additional Medicaid funding to grow their mobile crisis services. The option, available under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), provides states an 85% federal medical assistance percentage (FMAP) for mobile crisis for the first three years of implementation. This opportunity began on April 1, 2022, and will end on March 31, 2027.
